The former president and presumptive Republican nominee hosted a rally Saturday in Butler County, north of Pittsburgh, that was interrupted by gunfire. The former president appeared to sustain an injury to his ear before Secret Service agents whisked him off the stage.
The Secret Service and the Trump campaign confirmed that Trump is in stable condition and is receiving medical attention at a nearby facility. He was seen pumping his fist in defiance as Secret Service officers helped him off the stage and into the armored car in his motorcade.
It was not immediately clear if any additional rally-goers sustained injuries from the shooting.
Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the shooter and the audience member who were killed. Secret Service snipers killed the shooter after the shooter fired on Trump, Fox News reported.
Law enforcement officers are reportedly investigating the shooting as an assassination attempt.
President Joe Biden spoke Saturday evening, condemning political violence and saying he had tried to contact Trump. Biden stopped short of labeling the incident an assassination attempt.
