Scalise criticizes Joy Reid’s call to remember Trump after assassination attempt
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise criticized MSNBC host Joy Reid for suggesting the need for “guardians of memory” regarding former President Donald Trump. Reid’s comments came after an assassination attempt against Trump, where she expressed concern about allowing Trump to rewrite himself as a “hero” and ”victim.” Scalise questioned the idea of those who fuel hatred being appointed as guardians of memory, stating that middle America is tired of the Left’s rhetoric. He emphasized that Trump is the only one addressing important issues that the Left ignores.
Scalise slams Joy Reid’s idea of being ‘guardians of memory’ about Trump after assassination attempt
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) blasted MSNBC host Joy Reid after she shared concerns that former President Donald Trump would “rewrite himself” as both a “hero” and “victim,” suggesting the need for “guardians of memory.”
Reid’s comments, made during the first night of the Republican National Convention, follow Saturday’s assassination attempt against Trump.
“People are concerned and expressing concern that we won’t be the guardians of memory and that we will allow Donald Trump as he is, you know, bathed in the glory and grandeur of his party to rewrite himself as both a hero and a victim, that people who are the most vulnerable to not just the things he’s done but the things he’s promising to do and that that will then happen without a guardian,” Reid said during her RNC coverage Monday night.
While speaking with the Ingraham Angle on Tuesday, Scalise balked at Reid’s notion of being a “guardian of memory.”
“Who appointed people who fuel hatred every day as the guardians of memory? What memories are they talking about?” Scalise asked. “Middle America is fed up with all the far-Left malaise with high prices at the grocery store, with an open border. Trump’s the only one talking about those issues, and the Left doesn’t want to talk about them. It’s why they say all this hyperincendiary language about Donald Trump that’s got to stop, but they can’t stop doing it because they don’t want to talk about real issues.”
Scalise also drew a comparison between Trump and Ronald Reagan.
“It was the Jimmy Carter years of malaise that gave us Ronald Reagan, and think about where we are today,” the House majority leader said. “Biden has given us worse times than the Jimmy Carter years. I think at that point, you see America turn around and say, ‘We need to turn to a better time.’ And that’s where Donald Trump is.”
“Donald Trump gave us a great four years, great economy, great opportunity for people. Everybody was doing better. And this time around, I think you are seeing President Trump even more sharp focused on what those needs are that people want,” Scalise continued. “They want a strong leader. They want somebody who is going to secure the border, who’s going to tackle these issues that Joe Biden created. And the energy has never been higher. Our unity, by the way, Laura, I have never seen us this unified, and that’s saying a lot.”
