Trump team files FEC complaint over Biden transferring funds to Harris: Report
Former President Donald Trump’s, Republican presidential candidate, campaign is reportedly alleging nearly $100 million in campaign funds transferred from President Joe Biden to Vice President Kamala Harris violated campaign finance laws.
The Trump campaign’s general counsel filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday, according to the New York Times, criticizing Democrats for transferring Biden’s campaign coffers to Harris after the president dropped his reelection bid.
“Kamala Harris is seeking to perpetrate a $91.5 million dollar heist of Joe Biden’s leftover campaign cash — a brazen money grab that would constitute the single largest excessive contribution and biggest violation in the history of the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971, as amended,” David Warrington wrote in the FEC complaint.
Although Biden’s heir apparent, Harris is not yet the Democratic presidential nominee. The Trump campaign said that until she is the nominee, contributions made to Biden should not be rolled over to the vice president.
“To date, Biden for President has provided no indication that it will return or redesignate all of its general election contributions,” Warrington wrote in the complaint. “Thus, each and every general election contribution received by Biden for President is an excessive contribution.”
According to the newspaper, the FEC complaint may not be resolved until the election. However, the Trump campaign has suggested it may file a lawsuit to block the transfer of funds to Harris.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the White House, Harris, and Trump campaigns for comment.
