Trump to stop holding outdoor rallies

Former President Donald Trump has agreed to stop holding outdoor rallies as part of his presidential campaign. The decision comes almost two weeks after Trump was nearly killed during an assassination attempt on July 13 at an outdoor rally this month in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Two sources familiar with the operations of Trump’s campaign acknowledged the former president’s plan to shift to indoor venues, NBC News reported. Trump has repeatedly held rallies at outdoor venues that hosted thousands of attendees at outdoor venues. Security concerns, however, have necessitated the move to indoors.

The campaign’s pivot to indoor events came on the same day that Kimberly Cheatle, the 27th director of the United States Secret Service – and the person responsible for Trump’s security detail on July 13 – announced her resignation.

Trump’s decision to hold rallies at indoor locations also came after the Secret Service expressed safety concerns over Trump’s outdoor events. After the assassination attempt on Trump’s life, The Washington Post reported that the Secret Service urged the former president to stop holding outdoor events. Outdoor events were more difficult to secure as there were more possibilities for security breaches and vulnerabilities.

Representatives from both the Trump campaign and the Secret Service declined to comment on these developments, The Washington Post reported.

Trump’s staff has been evaluating indoor venues nationwide to hold future rallies and events as his presidential campaign enters the last 100 days before the 2024 presidential election. According to The Washington Post, outdoor events for Trump’s campaign are no longer being considered.
