Every Democrat and Republican skipping Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing his most contentious address to Congress yet, with both Republicans and Democrats boycotting it.

The War in Gaza has split the Democratic Party between the younger, progressive pro-Palestinian wing and the older, establishment, pro-Israel wing. This has culminated in the leadership inviting Netanyahu to speak in Congress after over nine months of war. Many Democrats have pledged to boycott the speech, either out of principle or pressure.

Here is every Democrat not attending Netanyahu’s speech:

Senators:

Brian Schatz (D-HI)

Elizabeth Warren (D-MA)

Patty Murray (D-WA)

Jeff Merkley (D-OR)

Dick Durbin (D-IL)

Peter Welch (D-VT)

Chris Van Hollen (D-MA)

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), an Independent ally of the Democrats, is also boycotting the speech.

Representatives:

Jim Clyburn (D-NC)

Jim McGovern (D-MA)

Ro Khanna (D-CA)

Sara Jacobs (D-CA)

Jared Huffman (D-CA)

Don Beyer (D-VA)

Greg Casar (D-TX)

Jamaal Bowman (D-NY)

Jan Schakowsky (D-IL)

Stephen Lynch (D-MA)

Hank Johnson (D-GA)

Maxwell Frost (D-FL)

Veronica Escobar (D-TX)

Becca Balint (D-VT)

Jared Huffman (D-CA)

Ilhan Omar (D-MN)

Summer Lee (D-PA)

Pramila Jayapal (D-WA)

Barbara Lee (D-CA)

Nydia Velazquez (D-NY)

Ami Bera (D-CA)

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY)

Cori Bush (D-MO)

Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ)

Mark Takano (D-CA)

Rosa DeLauro (D-CT)

Delia Ramirez (D-IL)

Judy Chu (D-CA)

Ayanna Pressley (D-MA)

Jamie Raskin (D-MD)

Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) hasn’t explicitly said she will boycott but released a statement saying Netanyahu is a “war criminal committing genocide against the Palestinian people,” and that inviting him to Congress was “disgraceful.”

The single Republican boycotting is Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), who objected on the grounds that the speech constituted “political theater on behalf of the State Department.”

“The purpose of having Netanyahu address Congress is to bolster his political standing in Israel and to quell int’l opposition to his war,” he wrote in a post on X. “I don’t feel like being a prop so I won’t be attending.”

Two others won’t be attending, Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), but in both cases, this is due to previous commitments, rather than a boycott.
