Biden withdrawal spurs more than 38,000 voter registrations on Vote.org

Since President Joe Biden‘s withdrawal from the presidential race on Sunday, 38,500 people, most under 34, have registered to vote on Vote.org, a nonprofit, nonpartisan voting registration technology platform.

The 700% spike in voter registrations for the platform was the largest of the cycle and was higher than when Taylor Swift endorsed Biden in 2020. It is unknown what affiliation most of the registrations counted for, but it is likely that a majority are Democrats, given the timing.

“Vote.org smashed a 48-hour record for new voter registrations during the 2024 cycle, registering more than 38,500 Americans over that timeframe following President Biden’s announcement on Sunday,” Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, said in a press release.

“Younger voters led the way, making up 83% of new registrations. A healthy democracy depends on all Americans making their voices heard at the ballot box, and this is a highly encouraging sign that voters are ready to do just that,” she added.

Some Harris supporters lauded the boost, saying, “The youth will save us.”

The voter registration boost could be another sign of a wave of enthusiasm for the Democratic Party and for likely nominee Vice President Kamala Harris since she took over for Biden. Other signs, such as a massive fundraising boost and a torrent of volunteers, took shape for the Harris campaign soon after Biden stepped aside from the campaign.

A recent poll saw former President Donald Trump leading Harris 58% to 39% among voters 18 to 34, with both candidates earning more support among the youth than a Trump-Biden race.

The Washington Examiner contacted the Trump and Harris campaigns but did not receive a response.
