Pro-Palestinian group says it unleashed maggots and crickets at Netanyahu’s DC hotel

The Palestinian Youth Movement’s Washington, D.C.-area chapter says protesters released maggots and mealworms last night at the Watergate Hotel, where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is staying.

A video posted by the group on Instagram showed the bugs crawling on a conference room table in front of the U.S. and Israeli flags.

“BON APPETIT!! MAGGOTS RELEASED ON THE CRIMINAL ZIONIST’S WAR TABLE!” the group said in the post.

“Palestine protestors manufactured chaos at the Watergate Hotel last night so that Netanyahu, Israeli Mossad agents, and the Secret Service had no peace as they continue to terrorize our people,” the post said.

The group also claimed to have released crickets on multiple floors of the hotel and set off fire alarms for over half an hour “to ensure that there will be no rest before Netanyahu and Congress disgrace themselves in front of the world for failing to achieve any of their military and political objectives.”

The Watergate Hotel confirmed to the Washington Examiner that it is aware of “the unfortunate incident that occurred at the property yesterday.”

“We took the necessary steps to ensure the property has been sanitized and is now operating as normal,” the hotel said. “We are cooperating fully with authorities, who are handling the situation.”

Netanyahu is set to address a joint meeting of Congress Wednesday afternoon for the first time since Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

Dozens of lawmakers, including Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), are boycotting his speech, and U.S. Capitol Police arrested around 200 pro-Palestinian protesters occupying the Cannon Rotunda Tuesday.

The Watergate Hotel amped up security ahead of Netanyahu’s visit, shutting down streets around the hotel and erecting tall fences around the building, the Times of Israel reported.

The Washington Examiner has reached out to the PYM for more information.
