Democrats invest millions to maintain and gain control in six key battleground states – Washington Examiner
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is investing $2.2 million to strengthen their control in six battleground states. This funding includes .1 million for Michigan to maintain their state House, $500,000 for Pennsylvania, and additional amounts for New Hampshire, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Anastasia Apa, a vice president at the DLCC, indicated that these initial investments are part of their broader strategy, dubbed the “Summer of the States,” which aims to allocate $10 million in total for new initiatives in these critical areas. The funding initiative comes after an increase in fundraising efforts, particularly following President Joe Biden’s drop from the presidential race and Vice President Kamala Harris’s subsequent candidacy. Although it’s too early to assess the impact of these high-profile changes on local elections, the DLCC plans to adjust their strategies as more data becomes available.
Democrats drop millions to keep and win control in six battleground states
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is infusing a total of $2.2 million into six battleground states to enhance efforts to compete for their state legislatures.
The DLCC is sending $1.1 million to Michigan to keep their state House and $500,000 to Pennsylvania for the same. $350,000 in New Hampshire, where Democrats are trying to flip the state House and Senate.
They’re also spending $120,000 to flip both North Carolina legislative chambers, $48,000 to flip Wisconsin’s chambers, and $50,000 to maintain control over the Minnesota House.
“We’re making the first of our investments right now,” Anastasia Apa, vice president of development at the DLCC, said on Wednesday. “As we continue through the cycle and are able to collect more data about where we can make the most strategic and impactful investment, we will continue this spend.”
The investments are part of the DLCC’s “Summer of the States” campaign, which will include $10 million in total for new investments in battleground states. Democrats recently received a significant fundraising boost after President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race with Vice President Kamala Harris taking his place.
Apa said it was “too soon” to tell what effect the top of the ticket would have on down-ballot races. However, she cautioned Democrats not to become complacent about down-ballot races, pointing to the party’s performance in 2020.

Democrats won the presidency and the Senate that year and held their majority in the House but lost two majorities to Republicans and gained none. Republicans have control of 28 legislatures to Democrats’ 20 with two split.
“Back in 2020, Biden won, and at this level of the ballot, we lost ground,” Apa said. “Democrats cannot afford a repeat of 2020. We cannot afford to ignore the funding and resourcing at this level of the ballot.”
