Trump’s attacks on Kamala Harris come into focus – Washington Examiner
Former President Donald Trump delivered a speech at Turning Point USA Faith’s Believers’ Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he criticized Vice President Kamala Harris on various fronts, particularly her record on religious liberty and her stance on Israel. Trump asserted that Harris supports a “militantly hostile” ideology against people of faith, referencing her past questioning of judicial nominee Brian Buescher’s affiliation with the Knights of Columbus, implying that their Catholic beliefs disqualified him from serving on the federal bench. Additionally, he took issue with Harris’s absence from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress, suggesting it reflected poorly on her views towards Jewish people and Israel. Trump also labeled Harris a “bum” and pointed out her role as “border czar,” claiming the current border situation is the worst in history. His remarks were well-received by the audience, emphasizing a strong theme of religious and national sentiments during his speech.
Trump’s attacks on Kamala Harris come into focus
Former President Donald Trump honed attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris during a speech to Christian conservatives, weighing in on her record on a range of issues from faith to the border.
On Friday evening, the GOP nominee spoke to crowds at Turning Point USA Faith’s Believers’ Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“Americans of faith are the soul of our country,” Trump said to cheers.
As he spoke at the faith-themed event, the former president was quick to criticize Harris for her stance on religious liberty.
Trump asked the crowd, “Does everyone here understand the radical left ideology Kamala supports is really militantly hostile towards Americans of faith?”
The former president told the conservatives that Harris “viciously attacked highly qualified judicial nominees simply because they were members of the Knights of Columbus, suggesting that their Catholic faith disqualified them from serving on the federal bench.”
Trump referenced an interaction Harris had with judicial nominee Brian Buescher in 2019. At the time, Harris asked Buescher, “Were you aware that the Knights of Columbus opposed a woman’s right to choose when you joined the organization?”
Trump continued the religious theme as he criticized Harris for not attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to Congress on Wednesday. Harris did meet with Netanyahu on Thursday, but her comments reportedly drew the ire of Israeli officials.
“She doesn’t like Jewish people; she doesn’t like Israel,” he claimed on Friday evening.
The former president told the crowd he asked Netanyahu, “How does a Jewish person vote for a Democrat?” Trump met with the Israeli leader at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort earlier on Friday.
“We came to a conclusion that it was mostly tradition,” Trump said.
Calling Harris “a bum,” Trump switched gears to attack his Democratic opponent on the border
“She was the border czar. Now they’re trying to say she never was the border czar,” Trump said. “They’re deleting it all over the palace because we have the worst border in history.”
His words come as media outlets such as CNN, ABC News, and MSNBC are backpedaling the label networks often used to describe Harris’s role in overseeing U.S. relations with Central America in 2021.
Meanwhile, the White House says Republicans are the ones thwarting immigration reform. During a press briefing this week, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed Trump for thwarting a border deal in February.
“Why are Republicans so sensitive about actually not owning up to them getting in the way of a border deal?” Jean Pierre asked. “Why won’t they own up to that? Why won’t they own up to the last president who told them not to move forward?”
