Gas prices: Slight drop in gas costs to start the week – Washington Examiner

Gas⁢ prices saw a slight decrease at the beginning of the week, with the average price for ​a gallon of regular gas dropping to $3.505, down from $3.506 the previous day. However, this price reflects an increase compared to ⁤last week ($3.501) and a month ago ($3.496). The fluctuation in⁣ gas prices is a key​ concern as the 2024 presidential election approaches, especially with Vice President Kamala Harris potentially stepping in ⁢as‍ the Democratic nominee following President Joe Biden’s decision not ⁤to run for reelection.

Currently, Hawaii holds the‍ highest average gas ⁢price at $4.659 per gallon, while⁣ Mississippi has the lowest⁣ at $2.974. In Washington, D.C., the⁣ average price increased to $3.712, and in Virginia,​ it decreased to $3.386. Maryland’s average price is reported ​at $3.475. gas‍ prices remain significantly higher than during former President Donald Trump’s administration.

Gas prices slightly decreased on Monday, with the average price of a gallon of regular gas falling to $3.505, according to AAA. This was ever-so-slightly less expensive than Sunday’s average cost of $3.506 per gallon. However, it was a small increase from last week when the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $3.501. It is also more expensive than a month ago when a gallon of regular cost $3.496.

The price of gas remains a vital topic heading into the 2024 presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the likely Democratic nominee, will have to indicate how she will address the country’s high gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.

While prices have fluctuated in 2024, there has been a decrease in the pumps in recent weeks and months. Nevertheless, gas prices remain significantly higher than when former President Donald Trump was in office.

Hawaii has the highest average price for a gallon of regular gas at $4.659 on Monday. Mississippi remained the state with Monday’s prices dropping to $2.974 per gallon. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Washington on Monday was $3.712. This was an increase from Sunday when gas was $3.698. Regular gas is also more expensive in the nation’s capital than a week ago when the average price was $3.703 per gallon. A month ago, people in Washington paid $3.660 per gallon.

Virginia

On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia was $3.386. This decreased from Sunday’s average price of $3.393 per gallon. Gas prices are also less expensive in Virginia than a week ago when regular-grade gas was $3.418 per gallon. Prices, however, are more expensive now compared to a month ago when the price for a gallon of regular was $3.336.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Monday was $3.475. This was a decrease from Sunday, when regular gas was $3.482 per gallon. A week ago, the price was $3.493 per gallon. Gas prices are also less expensive in Maryland compared to a month ago when people in Maryland paid $3.565 for a gallon of regular gas.

Delaware

On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Delaware was $3.383, a decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.387. Both prices are less expensive than last week when it cost $3.405 for a gallon of regular gas. Gas prices are also lower than a month ago when drivers in the First State paid $3.518 for a gallon of regular gas.

Pennsylvania

The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Pennsylvania on Monday was $3.613. This slightly decreased from Sunday when regular gas cost $3.617 per gallon. A week ago, the price was $3.643 per gallon. Gas prices are also less expensive in Pennsylvania than a month ago when people in the Keystone State paid $3.641 for a gallon of regular gas.

New Jersey

On Monday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in New Jersey was $3.387, a decrease from Sunday’s price of $3.391. Both prices are less expensive than last week when it cost $3.439 for a gallon of regular gas. Gas prices are slightly more expensive now than a month ago when drivers in the Garden State paid $3.374 for a gallon of regular gas.
