Biden says he wants his legacy with Gen Z to be he ‘cured the economy’ – Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden expressed in a recent press interaction that he hopes his legacy with Generation Z will be that he “cured the economy” along with environmental issues and other matters. This statement was made following questions from reporters after his trip to Texas. Despite his aspirations for a positive legacy, Biden faces significant challenges, particularly regarding his approval ratings and public perception of his economic management as he prepares for the 2024 presidential election. Polling indicates he holds a narrow lead over former President Trump among Gen Z voters, with a slight preference showing 48% for Biden compared to 45% for Trump. The ongoing sentiments around his cognitive capabilities and leadership style also continue to draw scrutiny.
Biden says he wants his legacy with Gen Z to be he ‘cured the economy’
President Joe Biden was asked how he wants Generation Z to remember him while answering questions from the press Tuesday morning after returning from a day trip to Texas.
“That I’ve cured the economy, and the environment, and a few other small things,” Biden responded.
Prior to bowing out of the 2024 presidential election, Biden had been facing high disapproval ratings, notably for his handling of the economy. Polling data conducted after the first presidential debate found that Biden had a slight lead over former President Donald Trump among Gen Z voters, with the president getting 48% against Trump at 45%, with the data having a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
Biden also briefly addressed who Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, will select as her 2024 running mate, only saying, “We’re talking.”
Both Harris and Trump are vying to win over Gen Z voters in this election cycle, as both have their own TikTok accounts. Harris’s personal account has garnered 3.5 million followers, while her campaign account, Kamala HQ, has received 2.6 million.
Trump’s move to win over Gen Z voters has included an appearance on the IMPAULSIVE podcast, hosted by boxer and social media influencer Logan Paul, and filming two TikTok videos with Paul’s brother, Jake Paul, with Trump stating in one of the videos, “We’re with those young people.” The former president has received 9.4 million followers on TikTok.
