A video from Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker supporting Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) as Vice President Kamala Harris’s pick for running mate has reinforced speculation that her decision has already been made.
“We’re getting behind Kamala Harris for president and Josh Shapiro for vice president,” various speakers said in the video.
The video endorses Shapiro as her pick for various reasons, including his pro-labor and “progressive” policies, and only suggests he is Harris’s running mate towards the end of the video. Some online speculated this was a leak that was supposed to be published only after he was announced on Monday, but the video could just be arguing Harris should choose Shapiro, not that she already has. Further, neither Harris nor the Democratic National Committee paid for it.
As of writing, the video has been up for several hours and is pinned to the top of Parker’s X page.

“This isn’t a leak. It’s a video compiled from a press conference last week of PA electeds campaigning to get Shapiro selected as the VP pick,” Democratic strategist Walid Shahid said.
Philadelphia Magazine writer Ernest Owens said in X the video was indeed a leak and has caused a “firestorm” behind the scenes.
Shapiro is one of several leading candidates to be Harris’s running mate. She is set to announce her pick sometime ahead of a joint rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday.
