Biden hitting the trail with Harris — in safe, blue Maryland – Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden is set to campaign alongside Vice President Kamala Harris in Maryland next Thursday. The White House announced they will focus on discussing efforts to lower costs for American citizens, although the specific location within Maryland has not been disclosed. Harris’s campaign strategy includes deploying Biden in states he won in the 2020 election, such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, to engage key voter demographics like older citizens and to promote bipartisan policies like his infrastructure law and initiatives to lower prescription drug costs. Despite being less prominent in the campaign since officially withdrawing, Biden recently appeared with Harris at an event honoring American prisoners returned from Russia.
Biden hitting the trail with Harris — in safe, blue Maryland
President Joe Biden is expected to campaign alongside the Democratic nominee and his right-hand woman, Vice President Kamala Harris, next Thursday in Maryland.
The White House announced the pair would travel to Maryland to “discuss the progress they are making to lower costs for the American people.” It is not yet clear what city or region of the state they plan to visit.
Earlier this week, it was reported Harris’s campaign would deploy Biden at campaign stops “strategically” in states he won in 2020, such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. He is also expected to target key demographic groups that support him, such as older voters, and to campaign on bipartisan policies he has enacted, such as his infrastructure law and lowering prescription drug costs.
Since leaving the race, Biden has been relatively quiet as media attention shifted to Harris, and he has not been on the campaign trail. He and Harris were seen side by side at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland last week when they welcomed American prisoners back from Russia in the largest prisoner swap seen since the Cold War.
Biden reportedly had a hand in picking Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) to be Harris’s running mate.
“He’s just a blast,” Biden said of Walz, according to CNN.
“Biden was in the best mood ever,” the adviser said after a joint event in Wisconsin. The adviser recalled others joking that the Minnesota governor should be brought around more often “because he always put him in such a great mood.”
Maryland has a Senate race between former Gov. Larry Hogan and Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. Alsobrooks has an averaged 8.3-point lead over Hogan based on six polls.
