Trump commits to offering Musk a Cabinet position ‘if he would do it’ – Washington Examiner
Former President Donald Trump stated that he would offer Elon Musk a Cabinet position or advisory role if Musk was willing to accept it. This announcement came during an interview where Trump praised Musk, describing him as a “brilliant guy.” The interaction follows Musk’s endorsement of Trump for president and may reinforce their political alliance. Recently, both figures participated in a conversation on Musk’s social media platform, discussing various topics. Musk has shown strong support for Trump during this election cycle, initially indicating he would donate millions to Trump before later denying that claim. However, he has confirmed contributions to a pro-Trump political action committee.
Trump commits to offering Musk a Cabinet position ‘if he would do it’
Former President Donald Trump said he would offer tech magnate Elon Musk a Cabinet position or advisory role “if he would do it” during an interview on Monday.
Musk previously endorsed Trump for president, and the former president’s comments could serve to harden his support.
“He’s a very smart guy. I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He’s a brilliant guy,” Trump told Reuters. Trump recently joined Musk on a call on Musk’s social media platform, X, where they discussed various topics.
Musk has been an ardent supporter of Trump this election cycle and appeared to pledge millions to Trump before denying it publicly. He has admitted donating to the America PAC, a pro-Trump political action committee.
Trump also remarked he might end a $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles if elected. “Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing,” Trump told the outlet after a campaign event in York, Pennsylvania. His comments appear a little ironic, considering the aforementioned Musk heads Tesla, an electric car company.
The Trump campaign declined to comment when asked by the Washington Examiner on whether he would offer Musk a Cabinet position.
He was ultimately noncommittal on the credit.
“I’m not making any final decisions on it,” Trump said of the EV tax credit. “I’m a big fan of electric cars, but I’m a fan of gasoline-propelled cars, and also hybrids and whatever else happens to come along.”
He also said he’s open to other countries building cars in America.
“We’re going to give incentives, and if China and other countries want to come here and sell the cars, they’re going to build plants here, and they’re going to hire our workers,” Trump said. “We will make our own cars. I want to make our own cars.”
