Elizabeth Warren cries after a standing ovation at DNC – Washington Examiner
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) became emotional and cried after receiving a one-minute standing ovation during her appearance at the Democratic National Convention (DNC). Warren, who ran for president in 2020 and was a rival of now-Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, took the stage to speak in support of Harris’s qualifications for the presidency, eliciting great appreciation from the crowd. The scene was reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s standing ovation at the previous DNC as the first female nominee for a major party. While praising Harris, Warren humorously criticized former President Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), highlighting Harris’s commitment to protecting abortion rights and other family issues, stating she wouldn’t trust Trump or Vance with even small tasks.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren cries after a standing ovation at DNC
CHICAGO — Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) burst into tears after she received a one-minute standing ovation at the Democratic National Convention.
Warren first ran for president in 2020 when she was a rival of Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee. But when stood onstage to speak on Harris’s qualifications to become the next president of the United States, the crowd roared in appreciation for Warren.
The moment was reminiscent of Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, who spoke on Monday night and received a standing ovation as the nation’s first female nominee for a major party.
Although the majority of the Massachusetts senator’s speech was in praise of Harris, she managed to throw in a joke at the expense of former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).
“Kamala will protect abortion rights nationwide. Groceries. Gas. Housing. Healthcare. Taxes. Abortion,” Warren said. “Trust Donald Trump and J.D. Vance to look out for your family? Shoot, I wouldn’t let those guys — I wouldn’t them to move my couch.” Warren struggled to hold back a laugh as the crowd cheered her remarks.
The comment was in reference to a debunked rumor that Vance had sex with a couch in his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) made a similar attack on Vance during his first public rally with Harris after he was announced as her running mate.
“Like all regular people I grew up with in the heartland, J.D. studied at Yale, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and then wrote a bestseller trashing that community,” Walz said. “Come on, that’s not what Middle America is. And I’ve got to tell you, I can’t wait to debate the guy. That is if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up.”
Warren, however, concluded her remarks by once again championing Harris as “someone we can trust.”
