Biden to leave vacation for Labor Day campaigning with Harris – Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden is set to conclude his two-week vacation to join Vice President Kamala Harris for a campaign rally in Pittsburgh next Monday. This event marks the first joint campaign appearance since Harris took the lead on the Democratic ticket in July. Previously, the two appeared together at a White House-organized event in Maryland. Before the rally, Harris will make a solo campaign stop in Detroit, emphasizing her ties to labor unions. The campaign highlights that the Biden-Harris administration has been supportive of unions, claiming it to be the most pro-union administration in history with policies that have bolstered union membership and protected workers’ rights. In contrast, they criticize former President Donald Trump for his perceived anti-worker policies during his administration.
Biden coming back from vacation to campaign with Harris in Pittsburgh
CHICAGO — President Joe Biden will end his two-week vacation to take part in a campaign rally with Vice President Joe Biden next Monday in Pittsburgh.
Harris’s 2024 campaign announced the event, the first Biden-Harris campaign rally since the vice president supplanted her current boss atop the Democratic ticket in July, on Tuesday afternoon. The president and vice president appeared onstage together earlier this month in Prince George’s County, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C., but that event was organized and operated by the White House.
Harris will start her day with a solo campaign stop in Detroit before meeting Biden in Pittsburgh for a rally highlighting her connections to organized labor.
“The Biden-Harris administration is the most pro-union administration in history: Under President Biden and Vice President Harris’s leadership, support for union membership has grown to its highest level in half a century,” campaign officials said Tuesday. “President Biden is the first sitting president to join a picket line, signed legislation saving hundreds of thousands of union workers’ pensions, and will keep fighting to protect workers’ free and fair choice to a union.”
“Meanwhile, [former President Donald] Trump was one of the most anti-worker and anti-union presidents in history. He hurt autoworkers, shipped jobs overseas, and lined the pockets of the superwealthy and big corporations at the expense of the middle class,” the campaign continued. “A second Trump presidency would be even worse for working Americans — his Project 2025 agenda will raise taxes on typical working families by nearly $4,000 a year, allow employers to stop paying many workers overtime, and roll back labor and workplace protections. That contrast is why unions have overwhelmingly come out in support of the Harris-Walz ticket.”
The president has stayed out of the public eye since delivering the keynote address at the opening night of the Democratic National Convention last Monday. Following those remarks, Biden and first lady Jill Biden vacationed in Santa Ynez, California, until flying to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, for more rest and relaxation.
The Harris campaign also said that the vice president’s running mate, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), and her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, also plan to spend their Labor Day campaigning in Milwaukee and Newport News, Virginia, respectively.
