Three people are missing after a plane crashed into delivery truck in Calif.”>small plane crashed into a row of townhomes in Fairview, Oregon, on Saturday.
At around 10:30 a.m. local time, a twin-engine Cessna 421C crashed three minutes after taking off from Troutdale Airport, a small airport located in Multnomah County primarily used for flight training and as a relief airport for Portland International Airport. Two people were on board the plane when it crashed. One other person is missing after the plane hit a townhome, causing a significant fire. It is not clear if the third person was on the plane.
Video posted to social media shows one townhome engulfed in flames, with large plumes of smoke coming from the adjacent home.
According to John Plock, a public information officer at the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the plane first hit a pole, which caused debris to scatter. Shortly after, the plane crashed into the homes.
“The plane hit a power pole and so the impact of that appears to have caused some of the plane pieces to come off so, like I said, there’s really kind of two crash areas, so to speak, and debris kind of all around,” he said.
Scott Lewis, fire chief for the Gresham Fire Department, said the fire spread to four units and five families will likely be displaced.
The fire department added that the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
