Dick Cheney to vote for Kamala Harris, his daughter Liz says – Washington Examiner
In a surprising political shift, Liz Cheney, the former Republican Representative from Wyoming, revealed that her father, Dick Cheney, the former Vice President, intends to vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. During an interview with the Texas Tribune, Liz Cheney expressed her own decision to support Harris as well, marking a notable departure from traditional Republican affiliations. This endorsement comes after Liz Cheney has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump and his supporters, particularly in light of the events surrounding the January 6 Capitol riot. The announcement highlights ongoing divisions within the Republican Party and showcases the Cheney family’s evolving political stance.
Dick Cheney to vote for Kamala Harris, his daughter Liz says
Former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney said her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in November.
The younger Cheney was speaking with the Texas Tribune when she shared her father’s intentions. Just days earlier, Liz Cheney said she would be voting for Harris for president. She has been one of former President Donald Trump’s fiercest GOP critics following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Dick Cheney first endorsed Trump for president in 2016, but he has since grown to see Trump as a “threat to our republic.” He appeared in several primary ads in which he called Trump a “coward.”
“If you think about the moment we’re in and you think about how serious this moment is, my dad believes and he said publicly there has never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is,” Liz Cheney said.
Liz Cheney lost her reelection bid in 2022 to Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman. Now, the former congresswoman has gone on to campaign and endorse multiple Democratic candidates, including Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), who is challenging Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
“You might not agree on every policy position, but we need people who are going to serve in good faith,” she said. “And in this race, it is Colin Allred. And I’ll be working on his behalf.”
