JD Vance dismisses Taylor Swift’s ‘disconnected’ endorsement of Harris – Washington Examiner
Senator J.D. Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, has downplayed the significance of Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. He described the singer as a “disconnected billionaire” and suggested that her celebrity status will not influence most Americans who are facing real issues. While recognizing Swift’s musical talent, Vance emphasized that people may not relate to a wealthy celebrity when considering their own struggles and interests. He expressed his opinions during an interview on Fox News Channel with host Martha MacCallum.
JD Vance dismisses Taylor Swift’s ‘disconnected’ endorsement of Harris
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), the Republican vice presidential nominee, minimized the hype around singer Taylor Swift‘s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, calling the singer a “disconnected” billionaire celebrity.
“Well, look, we admire Taylor Swift’s music,” Vance said, but added, “I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of hers or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans.”
Vance explained to Fox News Channel host Martha MacCallum on Wednesday that Swift doesn’t understand the high grocery prices of middle-class people in the United States.
“When grocery prices go up by 20%, it hurts most Americans. It doesn’t hurt Taylor Swift. When housing prices become unaffordable, it doesn’t affect Taylor Swift or any other billionaire. It does affect middle-class Americans,” he said.
Swift signed her endorsement note on social media Tuesday as “Childless Cat Lady,” a slam against Vance for his viral resurfaced comment that spread across social media shortly after former President Donald Trump announced him as his running mate.
The 34-year-old singer, worth 1.3 billion, previously endorsed President Joe Biden in 2020.
Trump also downplayed Swift’s endorsement in a Wednesday interview on Fox News’s Fox & Friends.
“She’s a very liberal person,” he said. “She seems to always endorse a Democrat, and she’ll probably pay a price for it in the marketplace.”
