Biden touts ‘black jobs’ after Trump pummeled for using phrase – Washington Examiner
President Joe Biden recently made a verbal slip during an event celebrating Black Excellence at the White House, incidentally echoing former President Donald Trump’s controversial term “black jobs.” While speaking to the attendees, Biden stumbled over the phrase, stating, “we’ve created over 2 million new, black jobs for black — black Americans,” which elicited laughter from the audience. He then humorously suggested that the next “black job” to be filled is that of the President of the United States, prompting cheers from those present.
Trump has also been under scrutiny for his repeated use of the term “black jobs,” which has drawn criticism in various contexts, including during a recent debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, where he discussed job competition among different demographic groups. Notably, Biden’s campaign previously released an advertisement criticizing Trump for the same phrase during their first debate earlier this summer, marking a significant point in their political rivalry.
Biden touts ‘black jobs’ after blasting Trump for using same phrase
President Joe Biden suffered a verbal stumble Friday that was reminiscent of former President Donald Trump.
The president, while speaking to attendees at a brunch celebration of Black Excellence at the White House, got tongue-tied and repeated a phrase that’s landed Trump in hot water in recent months: “black jobs.”
“With your help, in just three-and-a-half years, we’ve created over 2 million new, black jobs for black — black Americans and,” the president mumbled, pausing amid laughter from the crowd.
“By the way, the next black jobs to be filled is as president of the United States of America,” he continued, earning cheers from the crowd.
Trump has faced questions about his repeated use of the term “black job,” including on a panel at the recent National Association of Black Journalists conference.
He emphasized his position, albeit with slightly different wording, Tuesday during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris.
“They’re coming in, and they’re taking jobs that are occupied right now by African-Americans and Hispanics,” the former president stated while contrasting his immigration policies with those of Harris.
Biden’s political campaign even cut an ad pummeling Trump for using the “black jobs” phrase during their first debate this summer, which resulted in Biden dropping his reelection and endorsing Vice Harris as the new Democratic presidential nominee.
Biden also used the “black jobs” line in a speech to needle Trump just days before exiting the 2024 election.
“I know what a black job is,” the president declared in a Las Vegas campaign speech. “It’s the vice president of the United States.”
