Vance responds to Mark Robinson controversy: ‘Allegations aren’t necessary reality’ – Washington Examiner
Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) recently addressed the controversy surrounding Mark Robinson, the Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina, in light of allegations concerning racist and antisemitic remarks attributed to him in a CNN report. Vance acknowledged the severity of the allegations but emphasized that they are not definitive proof of reality. He stated that the decision about Robinson’s candidacy ultimately lies with the people of North Carolina. When pressed on whether he believed Robinson’s denials of the claims, Vance refrained from fully endorsing either disbelief or belief, instead suggesting that it is important to allow Robinson to navigate the situation himself.
Vance responds to Mark Robinson controversy: ‘Allegations aren’t necessary reality’
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) on Saturday responded to the allegations against North Carolina Republican gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson, saying they “aren’t necessarily reality.”
While in Pennsylvania, Vance was asked if he is “comfortable” with Robinson as the Republican nominee for governor of North Carolina after a CNN report released on Thursday alleged Robinson used racist, antisemitic, and homophobic slurs in posts on a pornographic forum.
“Well, look, the allegations are pretty far out there, of course. But I know that allegations aren’t necessarily reality. And what I’d say is, it’s ultimately up to Mark Robinson and North Carolina whether he’s going to be their governor and whether he wants to stay in the race. I’ll let them make that decision,” Vance said.
Vance was then asked whether he believed Robinson’s denial of the allegations.
“I don’t not believe him. I don’t believe him. I just think that you have to let these things sometimes play out in the court of public opinion. He’s going to make whatever arguments he wants to make. I’m sure the news media and others are going to investigate these comments further. I just think, fundamentally, it’s Mark Robinson and the people of North Carolina that get to decide whether he’s their governor,” he said.
Vance also mentioned that the Trump campaign currently has no plans to campaign with Robinson.
Following the report’s release earlier this week, Robinson called it “salacious tabloid trash” and vowed to stay in the race.
Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Saturday, to which Robinson was not invited. Trump did not comment on the allegations in the report.
