On Thursday, regular gas was priced at $3.213, reflecting a slight uptick from the previous day, following a period of decreases. Despite this rise, gas prices remain lower compared to last year’s average of $3.838 per gallon. The fluctuation of gas prices is a significant topic ahead of the 2024 presidential election, especially as Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, will need to address economic concerns related to energy costs.
In the Delmarva region, Delaware no longer has the lowest gas prices, with a recent average of $3.099 per gallon, a rise from $2.973 the day before. Maryland’s prices increased to $3.18, while Virginia boasts the lowest in the area at $3.022. while prices have recently gone up, they are considered more affordable than they were a month ago.

This was a significant increase from yesterday when it cost people in the state only $2.973 per gallon. Thursday’s pricing was also higher than a week ago when gas cost $2.983 a gallon and a month ago when gas was $3.195.
Maryland
A gallon of regular gas in Maryland on Thursday was $3.18. Like Delaware, this was rather significant jump in one day. On Wednesday, a gallon of regular gas in Maryland was $3.075. Gas prices in Maryland are only slightly less expensive than a week ago, when a gallon of regular gas was $3.079. However, because of the weeks of decreasing gas prices in the country, the cost of gas on Thursday is much more affordable than a month ago, when the price was $3.283.
Virginia
Virginia is now the state with the cheapest gas in the Delmarva area. The price for a gallon of regular gas in the state on Thursday is $3.022. This also represented an increase from Wednesday, however, only slightly, with yesterday’s price at $3.012 per gallon. This was the same price as a week ago in Virginia. A month ago, gas in the state cost $3.223 per gallon.
Washington, D.C.
Unlike the other states in the area, gas prices in the nation’s capital decreased on Thursday with a new price of $3.318 per gallon. This was slightly less expensive than yesterday’s price of $3.323. A week ago, gas in the nation’s capital was $3.39 and a month ago, gas cost $3.602 per gallon.
Mississippi
Mississippi remains the state with the most affordable gas in the country, coming in with a price of $2.711 on Thursday. This was the same price as Wednesday in the state. Gas prices are slightly less expensive in Mississippi than a week ago, when gas was $2.721. It is also less expensive today to fill up with regular than it was a month ago in the state when a gallon of regular gas cost $2.896.
California
California is the state with the most expensive gas prices in the nation on Thursday, coming in at $4.715 per gallon for regular gas. This is a slight decrease from Wednesday’s price of $4.725 per gallon. Gas prices have fluctuated quite a bit in the Golden State in recent weeks. A week ago, it cost $4.769 for a gallon of gas in the state, but a month ago, regular gas was cheaper than Thursday’s price, when it cost residents only $4.605 per gallon.
