Trump returns to Butler: Ten powerful photos from the rally – Washington Examiner
On October 5, 2024, former President Donald Trump held a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, nearly three months after an assassination attempt occurred at the same venue. Anticipation for the event was high, with estimates suggesting that up to 100,000 supporters might attend. To secure good positions, many camped out over 24 hours prior to the rally.
The campaign framed this rally as a “triumphant return,” celebrating the life of Corey Comperatore, a volunteer fire chief who was killed during the attempted assassination. Notable attendees included Comperatore’s widow and daughters, as well as prominent figures like Elon Musk and Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance.
Security measures were significantly increased, with personnel from the U.S. Secret Service ensuring safety both inside and around the venue, particularly following the shooting incident. The event highlighted Trump’s ongoing political journey and resonated deeply with his supporters, especially in light of the recent violence they had experienced.

Observers in Butler, Pennsylvania, estimate that as many as 100,000 people could attend former President Donald Trump‘s rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds on Saturday, nearly three months after he and several rallygoers were shot there in an attempted assassination.
Local news outlets reported that supporters of the former president camped out at the fairgrounds more than 24 hours before the rally in hopes of being the first ones let into the venue to get a front-row spot.
Following the assassination attempt on July 13, the Trump campaign has marketed Saturday’s event in Butler as his “triumphant return” and “one of the most historic moments of this entire campaign season.”
Trump campaign officials previously told the Washington Examiner the event will “celebrate the life of Corey Comperatore,” the volunteer fire chief who was killed in the attack.
Helen Comperatore, Corey’s widow, and his daughters are slated to be at the event, along with Elon Musk and Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).
Security personnel, including the U.S. Secret Service, have fortified the venue and will be stationed both inside and outside the security perimeter.
That includes the roof of the glass company warehouse near the fairgrounds, where 20-year-old gunman Thomas Crooks positioned himself to shoot the former president.
