Fetterman contends economy is improving ahead of ‘very close’ 2024 election – Washington Examiner

Senator John Fetterman ⁣(D-PA) recently⁣ argued that⁢ the U.S. economy ‍is improving, despite polling data indicating ⁤that ⁤many voters perceive⁤ the economy as being in poor condition. Ahead of the closely ‌contested 2024 presidential election, Fetterman remarked that the⁣ economy is “the world’s envy,” attributing recent job growth and controlled inflation to‍ the efforts of President Joe Biden and Vice‍ President Kamala⁣ Harris. He ‍emphasized that⁤ the economic situation has been getting better and expressed confidence that the upcoming election in Pennsylvania would be very competitive. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) dismissed polling indicating the U.S. economy is not doing well ahead of the 2024 presidential election, arguing the country’s economy is “the world’s envy.”

The economy is a major factor among voters, with one poll from last month showing 71% of recipients rating the condition of the economy only fair or poor. In response to this polling data, Fetterman contended the election in his home state is going to be “very competitive,” but cited the improvements the economy has experienced recently under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

“And another fact is that the American economy is the world’s envy,” Fetterman said on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream. “And now 250,000 new jobs and inflation has been put in check and things continue to get better and better on that, and it’s going to be very, very close.”

Fetterman added that he has been visiting “red counties” to support Harris’s presidential bid, as both Democrats and former President Donald Trump realize that “Pennsylvania picks the president.” He also predicted that Harris “will prevail” in this election “just like Joe Biden did in 2020.”

Fetterman recently cautioned his party not to underestimate Trump’s influence in Pennsylvania, as the former president has “a special kind of place” in the state. Prior to becoming a senator, Fetterman was a campaign surrogate for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and said last month he saw warning signs that Trump had winning margins of support in the state, which he eventually won in the 2016 election.

Trump held a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, the same area where the first assassination attempt against him took place in July. The former president was accompanied by X owner and billionaire businessman Elon Musk, who told the Washington Examiner that the “destiny” of the country is on the line in this election.

A recent poll surveying 1,000 likely voters found that Trump and Harris are in a dead heat for Pennsylvania, with both garnering 48% support against a margin of error of 3 percentage points. The same poll found that Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) is leading his opponent, Republican candidate Dave McCormick, by 2%.
