Media Go To Bat For Harris After Prices Rose Again
As the U.S. approaches Election Day, recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals ongoing economic difficulties attributed to the Democratic Party’s policies. Inflation rates remain higher than expected, with the Consumer Price Index indicating a 2.4% rise from September 2023 to September 2024. Essential goods and services have seen price increases of over 20% since President Biden and Vice President Harris took office in January 2021. Despite this, some in the media assert that the economy is improving, with outlets like The Washington Post publishing opinions that criticize public perception of economic woes. In the lead-up to the 2024 election, there appears to be a concerted effort by corporate media to downplay inflation concerns and promote positive narratives about the Democrats’ economic strategies. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris is attempting to distance herself from previous economic challenges as she campaigns in the upcoming presidential race.
Less than one month before Election Day, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ published data confirms that the consequences of Democrats’ disastrous economic policies have continued to plague Americans.
Democrats and their corporate media and economic “expert” allies preemptively claimed inflation would “return to normal” just in time for the 2024 face-off. Shortly after the July 2024 consumer price index was released, former Deputy Director of the National Economic Council Bharat Ramamurti even went so far as to declare that “We’ve won the battle against inflation.”
The 2.4 percent price hike Americans suffered from September 2023 to the same month this year, however, was “a little hotter than anticipated.”
Consumers specifically paid more for food at home (1.3 percent), food away from home (3.9 percent), electricity (3.7 percent), shelter (4.9 percent), and transportation (8.5 percent) last month than they did the year prior. Overall, essential goods and services are more than 20 percent more expensive now than they were when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris took office in January 2021.
Corporate media such NBC News, the New York Times, CBS News, and ABC News tried to paint the additional September leap as inflation “cooling.”
The Washington Post even published an opinion piece taunting Americans for feeling discouraged by the economic woes they have suffered under the Democrat-controlled White House.
“This is a great economy. Why can’t we celebrate it?” the headline states.
The article’s author not only claims “the U.S. economy is in good shape,” but scolds Republicans for criticizing the Biden-Harris administration’s deceptive attempt to downplay the negative effects its poor policies and performance have had on voters.
“We are living through one of the best economic years of many people’s lifetimes,” columnist Heather Long wrote. “Yet it’s barely mentioned in popular culture or on the campaign trail.”
The propaganda press have gladly carried water for the Biden-Harris’ disastrous economic policies for four years. As record-high inflation continued to top voters’ concerns heading into the 2024 election, however, the media shifted to accommodate Democrats’ political agenda.
Over the last two months, outlets have not only continued their attempts to trick Americans into believing rising prices are good for them, but have also debuted an avalanche of articles devoted to boosting the 2024 Democrat presidential nominee’s alleged “plans to tackle” the inflation she welcomed with open arms.
Ever since she replaced Biden in the upcoming race for the White House, Harris has tried to distance herself from the role she played in the chaos and crises plaguing the current administration. Corporate media have gladly gone along with her charade by amplifying her campaign’s claims that she can’t do anything about inflation now, even though she is the VP.
In reality, Harris is proud of her economic track record, even though it has forced the price hikes Americans strongly oppose.
“I’m very proud of the work that we have done that has brought inflation down to less than 3 percent, the work that we have done to cap the cost of insulin at $35 a month for seniors,” Harris told CNN’s Dana Bash during her first sit-down interview in late August.
In her Oct. 8 appearance on “The View,” Harris claimed she would not change a thing about how her and Biden handled the last four years.
“There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of, and I’ve been a part of, of, of most of the decisions that have had impact,” Harris confessed.
