Henyard was elected mayor of the suburban village outside of Chicago in 2021, winning about 80% of the vote. However, residents and the board of trustee mayors have dubbed her “America’s worst mayor” and repeatedly called for her resignation due to her lavish spending on taxpayers’ dollars.

Last month, police were dispatched to a meeting of officials in Thornton Township, where Henyard serves as township supervisor. A verbal fight broke out between Heynard and Carmen Carlisle, a board of trustees member, who was upset about Henyard’s spending practices. Carlisle even called on former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to conduct an investigation into Thornton Township’s finances.

Lightfoot was hired for $400 an hour to uncover how Heynard was spending Dolton’s money, an assignment Carlisle wanted to be done for Thornton Township.

Lightfoot’s audit revealed that, under Henyard’s leadership, the village’s credit cards paid for nine domestic trips, $43,000 on Amazon in one day, $8,000 of purchases at Wayfair, and $2,000 at Best Buy.

The former Chicago mayor found Dolton’s general fund balance at a $3.65 million deficit. When Heynard took office in April 2022, the town had a surplus of $5.6 million.

Federal agents are investigating Dolton Village Hall, and Henyard has been forbidden from making appointments to village posts without the board of trustees’ approval. She also reportedly faces personal financial problems, as she and her boyfriend have $3,350 past due on their rent.
