Chris Cuomo to moderate Vance town hall
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) is set to join a town hall in Detroit next week that will be moderated by NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo.
The event will air on NewsNation on Thursday, Oct. 24, and will be livestreamed at 8 p.m. Eastern on the social media platform X.
NewsNation also invited Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) to participate in a similar event.
The town hall will have a live audience mixed with independents, Democrats, and Republicans.
Cuomo hosts NewsNation’s prime-time show Cuomo and previously was a news anchor on CNN.
In early October, the anchor defended the Ohio senator following the vice presidential debate moderated by CBS News’s Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell.
Vance had said the immigration crisis was hurting communities like Springfield, Ohio, which led the moderators to cut off his mic while he sparred with them over a fact-check.
“Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protected status,” Brennan said.
“Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact-check. And since you are fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on,” Vance responded.

As the Republican vice presidential nominee explained how the process of getting temporary legal status has been greatly expanded, his mic was cut off.
Following the debate, Cuomo called out the CBS moderators for interjecting themselves too much into the debate.
“Vance was right, okay? There’s nuance to it, but the bigger problem is why he was moved on?” Cuomo asked on his NewsNation show during post-debate analysis.
“‘We’ve got so much to get to.’ Says who? What is the schedule here? You have a list of topics? That’s not what this is about,” Cuomo said. “It’s about how the American people can access these two men and the two theories and the narratives and you’ve got to let them have their speak.
