Trump says economic recovery starts with US energy independence – Washington Examiner

Former President Donald Trump recently spoke about his approach to economic⁤ recovery, emphasizing ‌the importance of U.S. energy independence. During ‍a rally in the ⁤Bronx, he ⁤reiterated his ‌”drill, ⁤baby, ‍drill” mantra, asserting that the country’s ⁤economic challenges stem from a departure ‍from energy⁤ independence achieved during⁢ his ‌administration. ⁢Trump highlighted the past affordability of gas prices and suggested that the current inflation and high costs are a result of mismanagement in energy policies. He expressed a commitment to lowering interest rates and reviving domestic oil ‍drilling as key steps ‍to restore the economy. This rally was part of his effort to gain support just weeks⁤ before the ‍upcoming Election Day.

Former President Donald Trump explained his “drill, baby, drill” slogan as his solution to the country’s economic recovery.

With less than three weeks until Election Day, Trump was in New York City’s neighborhood of the Bronx Thursday to rally support. This was Trump’s most recent visit since hosting a rally earlier this year, proving his focus on garnering votes in the traditionally blue district.

“So when you were president, I know for a fact I was able to do three things: I was able to see money, save money, spend money. How can we make the economy come back?” a man asked Trump in the Bronx-based barbershop.

“Number one, it all began with the oil. They screwed around with what I did with oil. We had the greatest — we were energy-independent. You remember back four, five years ago, $1.87 for a gallon of gas,” Trump explained. “And now you have inflation, you have the costs so high. They haven’t gone down. We’re going to do two things: interest rates are going down, it’s going to be brought down — it’s going to be brought down fast. But much more importantly and quicker, we’re going to drill, baby, drill.”

New York did not elect Trump in either the 2020 or the 2016 election. The last time New York elected a Republican for president was Ronald Reagan in 1984. The state elected Reagan for both of his terms. Reagan also made a campaign stop in the Bronx ahead of his first win where , at the time, he addressed the National Urban League Conference.

This year, the Bronx elected its first Republican city council member in 50 years. Kristy Marmorato is also the first female Republican member ever elected.
