During a segment on CNBC’s *Squawk Box*, Cuban described Musk’s approach as both “innovative and desperate,” implying that such a move is indicative of a need to gain support. The giveaway is tied to Musk’s America PAC, which promotes pledges for the First and Second Amendments, and has sparked questions regarding its legality under federal law that prohibits paying for voter registration. Despite his skepticism, Cuban acknowledged Musk’s significant influence on the forthcoming 2024 presidential election, especially given Musk’s endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk‘s daily million-dollar giveaway to voters who sign his petition.
Signers of Musk’s America PAC statement would be pledging their support for the First and Second amendments, which have been Musk’s cited reasons for endorsing former President Donald Trump. Signers must also be registered voters in any one of the seven swing states: Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, or Georgia. When asked about the giveaway, Cuban said it was “innovative and desperate.”
“You know you only do that because you have to but Using a sweepstakes is not a bad idea. Whether or not it will work is a whole other thing,” Cuban said on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday. “It just as easily could backfire.”
Saturday was the first day Musk gave a random petition signer the cash award. The giveaway will continue through Election Day. Cuban cast doubt on the legality of the giveaway and claimed it is against federal law to pay or offer to pay in exchange for a registration to vote.
However, Cuban could not deny Musk’s influence during the 2024 presidential cycle. While Musk has endorsed former President Donald Trump and even started a super PAC to support him, Cuban said he attempted to get the Tesla CEO to sit down for an interview with Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Do you think if [Harris] wins that she could actually have a relationship and embrace Elon Musk?” Squawk Box host Andrew Ross Sorkin asked.
“Hundred percent yes. I’ve had that conversation,” Cuban said.
“By the way, you know, I’m a news guy. We all want the interview. I’d actually like to see her do X and have a conversation with Elon Musk,” Sorkin said.
“I’ll tell you exactly what they — not Kamala specifically, but her team. I’m like — you know I can try to facilitate a meeting with Elon and they didn’t trust the fact that he wouldn’t go on X and just say something to distort the the purpose of the meeting,” Cuban said.
Cuban has already vocally opposed the Harris campaign’s policy of taxing the wealthy’s “unrealized gains.” He promised that if she followed through on that promise, he would campaign against her for a second term.
In the meantime, Cuban has campaigned for Harris, most recently speaking at one of her rallies in Wisconsin last week.
