Washington Examiner Investigations Editor Sarah Bedford said Vice President Kamala Harris‘s campaign ran out of time to craft a slogan that caught on with the public.
With a little over two weeks left until Election Day, Harris is trying to distinguish herself from President Joe Biden in her bid for his office. However, according to Bedford, it’s too late in the race to change her messaging. Harris has only been on the campaign trail since July, while her opponent, former President Donald Trump, has been running since November 2022.
“There’s two weeks left in the election. Typically, right now, candidates should be in turnout mode, not in persuasion mode, right? They should be trying to get their existing voters to the polls, no longer trying to persuade voters that they’re the candidate they should pull the lever for because they’re frankly out of time with early voting in so many states,” Bedford said on Fox Business’s Cavuto: Coast to Coast on Monday. “But the fact Kamala Harris has not pivoted to the turnout phase in trying to win over undecided voters, I think, spells trouble for her.”
Voters have opted to cast their ballot early in record-breaking numbers. More than 622,000 Georgia voters have turned in their ballots in the first two days of early in-person voting. North Carolina voters cast over 778,000 ballots after their first two days.
“Again, with two weeks to go before the election, it’s not really the time for candidates to be testing out new messages. You see Donald Trump sticking to the same themes. He’s hitting his closing argument on message most of the time,” Bedford said. “Kamala Harris seemingly hasn’t even landed on a message, and we’re two weeks away from the election. That’s a really dangerous position for a presidential candidate to be in.”
A poll average from Monday afternoon showed Harris has a slight 1-point lead.
