His comments came while he was stumping for Democratic candidate Rep. Ruben Gallego, who is competing against Lake for the Senate seat currently held by Kyrsten Sinema. Former President Bill Clinton called Republican Senate candidate Kari Lake “physically attractive” during a campaign stop in Arizona to stump for Vice President Kamala Harris and Lake’s opponent, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).
Clinton made the comments while contrasting the two candidates in the Arizona Senate race, in which Gallego and Lake are seeking to succeed Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ).
“You got a person that grew up under sometimes challenging circumstances, who made something of his life running against someone who is physically attractive, but believes that politics is a performance art, and where, like J.D. Vance, she has to be prost[r]ate before the master,” Clinton said.

Lake has not specifically commented on X regarding Clinton’s statements, though she did repost a statement critical of the former president’s comment. Christy Kelly wrote on X that Clinton’s “sexist and dehumanizing comment” degraded Lake to “a cheap stereotype.”

Clinton also made a comment about Harris being “extremely vulnerable” during his visit to Arizona, saying there is a “sliver” of voters who have yet to make up their minds ahead of Election Day. He argued that Harris had “showed up” to win these votes.
“I mean, she was there as vice president, and what they think of her largely depends on what they think of President Biden,” Clinton said. “But she is extremely vulnerable, more vulnerable than she deserves to be, through crazy attacks. So they’ve been thinking, the Republicans, all this time, ‘how can we go on the attack.’”
Earlier this month, Clinton attempted to connect the death of Laken Riley, a Georgia college student, to former President Donald Trump but argued her death “probably wouldn’t have happened” had all the nation’s illegal immigrants been “properly vetted.” Riley’s suspected killer, Jose Antonio Ibarra, crossed the border in September 2022 before being released into the United States.
During his most recent campaign stop, Clinton poked fun at the Trump campaign for not partaking in another debate against Harris despite “all their macho talk.” Since shortly after his first debate against Harris, Trump has insisted that there will not be another debate between him and the vice president.
While another debate is unlikely to happen before Election Day, Harris did a town hall on CNN, though her performance at the event was criticized. Former Obama adviser David Axelrod suggested that many of Harris’s answers were a “word salad city.” The Washington Examiner’s Kaylee McGhee White argued Harris “started to sound just like Donald Trump” when she underscored the need for legal immigration.
With less than two weeks left before the election, recent polling data has indicated a handful of swing states could go toward Trump in the Electoral College. Besides Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia were also among the states in this polling.
