Harris says newspapers not endorsing is ‘disappointing’ – Washington Examiner

In a recent episode of the radio ⁣show *The Breakfast Club*, Vice President Kamala Harris expressed disappointment over several major newspapers, including *The Washington Post*, ⁤*Los Angeles Times*, ⁢*USA Today*,⁣ and *Tampa Bay Times*, choosing not to endorse candidates in ‍the upcoming 2024 presidential election. She specifically mentioned ⁢that the lack of endorsements for herself and former President Donald Trump reflects an ⁣unhealthy‍ influence of wealthy individuals ⁤in media, suggesting a connection between these editorial decisions and the interests of billionaire owners. Harris criticized ‌Donald Trump for⁣ his⁢ close ‍ties to affluent circles, implying that these relationships drive political decisions, such as the tax ⁢cuts he implemented while in office. Although she did not name specific publications when addressing the issue, her comments highlighted her concerns about media influence and the corporate interests behind it.

Harris says newspapers not endorsing is ‘disappointing’

Vice President Kamala Harris told the hosts of radio show The Breakfast Club in an episode released Tuesday that some outlets’ decisions not to endorse in the presidential election are “disappointing.”

The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and the Tampa Bay Times recently announced their decisions to abstain from endorsing Harris or former President Donald Trump in 2024.

“It’s disappointing, no doubt,” Harris told host Charlamagne tha God after he asked about the outlets’ refusals to endorse. Harris then said, “It’s billionaires in Donald Trump’s club,” suggesting she believes the lack of endorsements is connected to some of the outlets’ wealthy owners, such as the Washington Post’s Jeff Bezos.

“That’s who’s in his club,” Harris said. “That’s who he hangs out with. That’s what he cares about. That’s why, when he was last president, he put in place a massive tax cut for billionaires and the biggest corporations.”

Harris did not refer to any of the publications specifically but focused more on Trump’s wealthy connections.

“His policies are not about middle-class folks,” she said. “He’s not sitting around thinking about what he can do to take care of your grandmother and your grandfather. He’s thinking about people like himself or himself and all his grievances and all that makes him angry about how he has personally been treated, as opposed to worrying about how you have been treated and what his responsibility is to lift you up.”

Harris has been endorsed by the New York Times, the Houston Chronicle, and the Boston Globe. Trump has received the nod from the New York Post, Maxim magazine, and the Washington Times.

The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times supported President Joe Biden in 2020 but decided not to back Harris in 2024. Both received backlash in response to their decisions, which came after each outlet’s editorial boards had endorsement drafts in support of Harris.

Democrats have enjoyed high-level endorsements from large news organizations in the past, but the lack of certain endorsements this election cycle could hurt Harris.
