Battle for House in play as dozens of races remain too close to call – Washington Examiner
The ongoing battle for control of the U.S. House of Representatives features numerous close races across several states. As Republicans and Democrats await the final results in these contentious districts, both parties are strategizing for the potential outcome of the 2024 elections.
Currently, Republicans have secured at least 210 seats, while Democrats have obtained 198. To maintain a majority, Republicans need to win at least 10 out of 22 ‘toss-up’ districts, while Democrats require a net gain of merely four seats from their current standings.
Among notable races:
– In Louisiana’s 6th District, Democrat Cleo Fields leads Republican Elbert Guillory with 50.8% to 37.8%.
– In Maine’s 2nd District, incumbent Democrat Jared Golden is narrowly ahead of Republican Austin Theriault with a 50.1% to 49.6% margin.
– Maryland’s 6th District shows a tie between Democrat April McClain Delaney and Republican Neil Parrott at 50% each.
– Nebraska’s 2nd District has Republican Don Bacon, an incumbent, leading with 51.4% against Democrat Tony Vargas.
As more results emerge, the situation remains fluid, with several races too close to call, potentially impacting the overall control of the House.
Battle for House in play as dozens of races remain too close to call
Control of the House is still in play as both parties await dozens of races that are too close to call, with several “toss-up” contests key to whether Republicans gain a trifecta after the 2024 election.
With all 435 seats up for grabs, a party needs to secure 218 to hold the majority. Republicans have won at least 210 seats, and Democrats have won 198.
To maintain their current five-seat majority, Republicans would need to win at least 10 of the 22 seats that are considered “toss-ups,” in addition to defending the 208 seats that are rated as “likely” or “lean Republican.” Republicans have already lost three seats in New York and one in Alabama.
On the other hand, Democrats need only to have a net gain of four seats to win the majority. They have already lost six seats: three in North Carolina, two in Pennsylvania, and one in Michigan.
Below are the handful of seats that have yet to be called by the Associated Press. The Washington Examiner will update this story as winners are announced, with the victor’s name bolded.
