Fox Business host Larry Kudlow has told President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team that he does not want to return to government and would not take a role in the administration.

The pair met this week at Mar-a-Lago, as Trump’s advisers saw Kudlow as a top contender to lead the National Economic Council or the Treasury Department. However, Kudlow informed the former president’s team that he does not want a government role, according to the Wall Street Journal.

During Trump’s first administration, Kudlow served as NEC director for nearly three years and remained in the role until the end of the 45th president’s time in office. The two have kept in touch since then.

Kudlow has made himself into a successful host on Fox Business and recently signed an extension to keep hosting his program, a Fox News spokesperson told the New York Post.

“Larry Kudlow recently signed a new deal to continue hosting his eponymous program on FOX Business and has no plans to leave his current role helming one of the highest-rated shows on the network,” the spokesperson said.

On Friday, Trump reportedly met with investor Scott Bessent, the founder of investment firm Key Square Capital Management, who is a candidate for treasury secretary alongside billionaire and Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick. Trump and Bessent were scheduled to meet Friday, which marks the second time the two have met over the last week.

If Trump were to have nominated Kudlow, it would mark his second Cabinet nomination from the world of Fox News. On Tuesday, Trump nominated Fox and Friends weekend anchor Pete Hegseth for defense secretary.
