Great American Family President and CEO Bill Abbott underscored his network’s priority in providing content that uplifts “faith, family, and country,” arguing the presidential election results mirrored how most people want “change” in the entertainment field.

The election saw the majority of voters ask for a change from the current administration, opting to put President-elect Donald Trump back in the White House over Vice President Kamala Harris. During an interview with the Washington Examiner, Abbott contended that most people want entertainment that uplifts “faith, family, and country” and argued the election results “bore that out.”

“Well, we’ve always believed that people want change in entertainment and that the vast majority of the country, it’s not just the niche or not just a certain area of the country, we believe that the majority of people in the country want to see family-friendly entertainment that celebrates faith, family, and country,” Abbott said. “And I think the election bore that out in terms of what voters want to see, and I think that’s right in line with what our brand is.”

Abbott explained how the entertainment industry typically pushes out content portraying faith, family, and country “in a very negative light,” and Great American Family’s goal is to serve as a light “in that sea of darkness.” He also contended that most people were asking for content running counter to the industry’s typical output and that the election “proved” this notion to be true.

When asked if the viewers of Great American Family had any effect on the 2024 election, Abbott contended his network is made of people from both political parties, stressing that Republicans and Democratic supporters both view family-friendly programming “as something that’s important.” He added that Great American Family’s ultimate goal is to provide entertainment that unites people and that the network does not “delineate between red and blue.”

Great American Family, launched in 2021, has portrayed itself as an alternative to Christmas movie channels such as Hallmark, with this year’s lineup being “extremely strong.” Among the 2024 Christmas films set to be aired this season are two Candace Cameron Bure films, A Christmas Less Traveled and Home Sweet Christmas, and Once Upon a Christmas Wish, starring Mario Lopez and his wife, Courtney Laine Mazza.

One film Abbott expressed great enthusiasm about having on the network is I Heard the Bells, which recounts the story of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow as he recovers from the loss of his wife through the creation of the iconic song “I Heard the Bells.” The film will air Saturday night.
