North Carolina’s Stein ‘eager’ to work with Trump on hurricane relief

North Carolina’s Gov.-elect Josh Stein, a Democrat, said he is “eager” to work with President-elect Donald Trump to deliver hurricane relief to the state.

Earlier this year, western North Carolina was devastated by Hurricane Helene, seeing record-high flooding and more than 100 deaths. Stein indicated he will work across the aisle with the incoming federal administration to deliver aid that is still needed to the state.

GREATEST COMEBACK? HERE’S HOW TRUMP STACKS UP IN WHITE HOUSE HISTORY

“Hurricane Helene left unimaginable devastation in its wake, many lives lost, thousands of buildings destroyed, homes and small businesses, infrastructure, critical infrastructure, water and sewer, wastewater, highways, parts of Interstate-40 fell into the river,” Stein said on ABC News’s This Week.

“I am eager to work with the Trump administration to deliver for the people of western North Carolina who need the help of the federal government and our state government to get back up on their feet,” he added.

In the aftermath of the devastation caused by the storm, Trump repeatedly made false claims, accusing President Joe Biden of playing political games with disaster relief.

Stein, who is currently finishing his term as North Carolina’s attorney general, defeated controversial GOP Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson last month in the gubernatorial race. Stein will succeed Gov. Roy Cooper (D-NC), who is term-limited.
