Transgender women protest bathroom ban with dance party in Capitol – Washington Examiner
A group of activists, including transgender women, biological women, and nonbinary individuals, held a dance party in a women’s restroom at the U.S. Capitol in protest of a proposed ban on transgender women using women’s bathrooms. Approximately ten protesters wore shirts stating, “Flush the hate not our rights,” and recorded their demonstration, which featured music set to Klymaxx’s “Meeting in the Ladies Room.” The protest aimed to highlight their opposition to the legislation, capturing their gathering on social media platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter), where they shared messages directed at lawmakers. The event was framed as an act of “C***y Civil Disobedience” as they sought to make their voices heard against perceived discrimination.
Transgender women protest bathroom ban with dance party in Capitol
Activists protesting the proposed ban against transgender women danced in a womens restroom at the Capitol on Wednesday.
Roughly 10 protesters, including biological women and others who identify as transgender and nonbinary, recorded themselves having a dance party while wearing shirts that said, “Flush the hate not our rights.” A subsequent video was set to Klymaxx’s song “Meeting in the Ladies Room” and posted on X and Instagram.
“United States Capitol banned transgender women from using the women’s bathroom! My trans friends & I went to the Capitol & had a MEETING IN THE LADIES ROOM!” says the video’s caption. “Dear @NancyMace, We hope you will enjoy!!”
“C***y Civil Disobedience,” another protester captioned the video.
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) filed a resolution to ensure only biological women are allowed in female restrooms in the Capitol. This comes on the heels of Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE) becoming the first transgender woman to win a seat in the House.
While the resolution won’t be put to a vote until the next Congress convenes in January, Mace is already receiving more threatening backlash than this protest.
She has stood firm on her stance, saying her passion comes from her experience as a rape survivor. Now, she is floating similar bans in all federal buildings.
