He criticized Wray for what he termed an “invasion” of his Mar-a-Lago residence and mentioned ongoing issues such as rising crime and immigration problems. Trump also hinted at nominating Kash Patel as the new FBI director, suggesting that his appointment would lead to Wray’s departure.

President-elect Donald Trump all but confirmed he will fire FBI Director Christopher Wray once he takes office in January, stating he is “very unhappy” with the current direction and leadership of the agency.
Wray would not be the first FBI director to be fired by Trump, as the former president previously fired then-FBI Director James Comey in 2017, choosing to appoint Wray shortly after. However, Trump revealed in a one-on-one interview with NBC’s Meet the Press that he is currently not “thrilled” with Wray. He recently nominated Kash Patel to become the incoming Trump administration’s new FBI director.

“He invaded my home; I’m suing the country over it,” Trump said of Wray on Meet the Press. “He invaded Mar-a-Lago. I’m very unhappy with the things he’s done. And crime is at an all-time high, migrants are pouring into the country that are from prisons and mental institutions, as we’ve discussed. I can’t say I’m thrilled.”

Trump also addressed Wray’s response to the first assassination attempt on him in July, after which the FBI director suggested the presidential candidate was potentially hit by shrapnel instead of a bullet. The president-elect, who was heavily critical of Wray’s suggestion at the time, reiterated his criticism, questioning “where’s the shrapnel coming from,” and suggesting it came “from heaven.”

Trump then stated that while he has “a lot of respect” for the FBI, the public’s respect for the agency has gone “way down” over the years.
Meet the Press host Kristen Welker asked the president-elect if Wray needed to be fired in order for Patel to take his place, to which Trump said it is “pretty obvious” that Patel would be taking “somebody’s place,” and that this person is “the man that you’re talking about.”

Trump addressed the possibility of investigating the 2020 election results, to which he said he has “the right” to look into this, but he is “not interested” in doing so. His focus instead is on drilling for oil, lowering the cost of living, and securing the nation’s border.

Trump also previewed what his inauguration speech will detail in January, revealing it will revolve around “a message of unity” and “bringing our country together.”
