Matt Gaetz to anchor One America News Network show
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz is taking on an anchor role with One America News Network.
The Matt Gaetz Show will be coming soon, according to OAN’s website. This comes after Gaetz resigned from the House of Representatives last month when President-elect Donald Trump named Gaetz as his first choice to be the next attorney general. The congressman withdrew himself from consideration eight days later when it became clear he wouldn’t have support from at least 51 senators to be confirmed in the role.
OAN is broadcast via 85 stations across the country in addition to its own streaming app. Its cast of anchors was relatively unknown before joining the network. OAN originally existed among DirecTV’s channels until AT&T, its parent company, opted not to renew OAN’s contract in 2022, sparking a legal battle.
“Christmas came early with the MATT GAETZ SHOW. Welcome, Matt and Ginger to the @OANN family,” fellow OAN anchor Chanel Rion wrote on X. “THIS is going to be fun.”
The former congressman has been offering personalized roasts, pep talks, or special occasion videos on Cameo at the starting cost of $400, a price tag that has gone down by over $100 in the weeks since he launched his account. Once a customer orders a video, they are free to share the video to the public. His account remains active, and his customers have given him five-star ratings.
Gaetz withdrew himself from the nomination as the House debated releasing an ethics report into his conduct that included allegations about drug use and having sex with a minor. The House Ethics Committee was scheduled to release the report days after Gaetz resigned his seat.
The committee typically does not release information about former members of Congress since it only has authority over current members.
Committee members took multiple votes about whether the report should be released because Gaetz was a public figure and in line for a role in the Trump administration. House Republicans rejected attempts to release the report, though they signaled they might be open to its publication if the former representative took another position in government.
Gaetz announced that he would not seek a seat in Congress again. Trump has since replaced Gaetz’s nomination with former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
