Trudeau deems himself ‘proud feminist’ in bemoaning Trump’s victory over Harris

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau complained about the 2024 presidential election results, claiming that women will “always have an ally” within his government.

Trudeau’s comments come after President-elect Donald Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris last month, eight years after Trump beat then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016. The Canadian prime minister bemoaned how his nation’s neighbor voted “a second time” to not elect its first female president, choosing Trump instead.

“Everywhere, women’s rights and women’s progress is under attack, overtly and subtly,” Trudeau said. “I want you to know that I am, and always will be, a proud feminist. You will always have an ally in me and in my government.”

GREATEST COMEBACK? HERE’S HOW TRUMP STACKS UP IN WHITE HOUSE HISTORY

Trudeau’s knock against the U.S. comes shortly after Trump joked about the possibility of making Canada the 51st state in the U.S., a proposition he proposed in the event that the northern country is unable to keep up with Trump’s tariffs. The president-elect also suggested that Trudeau could serve as governor, though acknowledged that prime minister “is a better title.”

Last week, Trump posted a photo on Truth Social that appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, which portrayed him looking out at mountains while standing beside the Canadian flag. In his post, Trump wrote the phrase “Oh Canada!”, a reference to the nation’s anthem, O Canada.

Trudeau met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago ahead of the latter assuming office in January, with the two having an “excellent conversation.”
