Trump accused Selzer, a highly regarded Iowa-based pollster of more than 20 years, of intentionally skewing a poll in favor of Vice President Kamala Harris days before the election and failing to capture Trump’s decisive 13-point victory in the state.

The poll was “election-interfering fiction” and violated an Iowa consumer protection law, the complaint, reported by Fox News, alleged.

“Contrary to reality and defying credulity, defendants’ Harris Poll was published three days before Election Day and purported to show Harris leading President Trump in Iowa by three points,” the complaint stated.

Selzer’s surprising poll showing Harris leading in the reliably red state missed the actual results of the presidential election by 16 points.

At the time, the poll raised eyebrows and garnered hopeful reactions from Harris supporters, who said it was proof that Harris had quiet momentum among women voters. Meanwhile, Trump blasted the poll as “highly skewed” and called Selzer one of his “enemies” trying to swing the election.

Selzer told the Washington Examiner she had “no comment today” on the lawsuit.

During an interview after the election, Selzer said she took Trump’s allegations of election interference “very seriously.”

“The idea that I intentionally set up to deliver this response when I’ve never done that before,” Selzer said. “I’ve had plenty of opportunities to do it. It’s not my ethic.”

The lawsuit marks another instance of Trump transforming his words of disdain for traditional media into action by waging expensive legal fights against outlets, forcing them to put up lawyer costs and court fees to fight them.

It comes on the heels of Trump securing a $15 million settlement with ABC News over misstatements by the network’s longtime news anchor George Stephanopoulos.

Stephanopoulos said on the air roughly a dozen times during a broadcast in March that Trump was found “liable for rape,” when in fact, a jury had found Trump liable for “sexual abusing” writer E. Jean Carroll. Trump charged that the comments were defamatory, but the case never made it to trial. Defamation is difficult to prove, but, according to CNN, ABC News wanted to avoid producing discovery in the case, which would make public behind-the-scenes material that factored into the outlet’s reporting.

The Selzer and Des Moines Register lawsuit, however, more aptly mimics a separate media lawsuit Trump brought in October against CBS News.

Trump’s attorneys alleged the outlet in that case violated a Texas consumer protection law by posting shorter clips of a response Harris gave to an interview question. Legal analysts have widely regarded the lawsuit as frivolous, and CBS News has moved to have it thrown out.
