Rod Blagojevich suggests Trump sue JB Pritzker for calling him a ‘rapist’
Former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich warned Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) that calling President-elect Donald Trump a rapist could result in him getting sued and having his law license revoked.
On the heels of ABC News settling Trump’s defamation suit for $15 million, Pritzker went on the record to refer to Trump as an “adjudicated rapist” due to the ruling in the civil case related to writer E. Jean Carroll, in which a jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse rather than rape. In the case of ABC, it aired a segment in which host George Stephanopoulos claimed Trump was “liable for rape.”
“These are malicious things that he’s saying, particularly the rapist one when he should know better,” Blagojevich said Wednesday on Greg Kelly Reports. “He’s a lawyer. He’s a licensed attorney. And lawyers have a responsibility as officers of the court, even in the public square, to be truthful and honest. He could be facing the possibility of losing his law license, not to mention the fact that he ought to get his a** sued for what he’s been saying because these are nasty, ugly lies.”
Trump granted Blagojevich clemency for his corruption conviction. The former governor was sentenced to 14 years in prison, but Trump commuted the sentence in 2020. Online, Blagojevich’s comments prompted further calls for lawsuits from another Trump ally.
“President Trump should sue billionaire Governor [J.B.] Pritzker who falsely called him a rapist,” former Trump adviser Roger Stone wrote on X. “The video clips are all here.”
Trump has yet to comment on his settlement with ABC or any further references to himself as a “rapist.” It remains to be seen whether he will take further legal action.
The settlement money will go towards establishing a “presidential foundation and museum” to be established by or for Trump, as past U.S. presidents have done.
