Incoming White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the ban on oil drilling isn’t coming from President Joe Biden but the “radical Left environmental extremists” within his administration who are “not pro-America.”
The White House announced a ban across 625 million ocean acres on the day the 2024 election is set to be certified in President-elect Donald Trump’s favor. This ban includes acres off the East Coast, plus the California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska coasts and the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
“This is a disgraceful decision by the Biden administration. And I say the administration because we all know Joe Biden doesn’t know what is going on. This isn’t him. This is radical Left environmental extremists in his administration who don’t care about what is in the best interest of the American people,” Leavitt said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends on Monday.
“But this is going to be Joe Biden’s legacy. Not doing what is in the best interest for the American people to bring down the cost of living and inflation that has been robbing them of hard-earned paychecks every week. No, it’s about throwing stones at those who don’t believe in their ideology. It’s about being anti-Trump, not pro-America,” Leavitt said.
According to Leavitt, Trump is already considering how he can possibly rescind this executive order and expedite the permits pending for oil drilling. Biden’s ban will not go into effect for drilling operations that already have permits and leases.
“Biden is doing everything possible to make the TRANSITION as difficult as as possible, from Lawfare such as has never been seen before, to costly and ridiculous Executive Orders on the Green New Scam and other money wasting Hoaxes,” Trump wrote Monday on Truth Social. “Fear not, these ‘Orders’ will all be terminated shortly, and we will become a Nation of Common Sense and Strength. MAGA!!!”
Trump tried to reverse similar bans from former President Barack Obama but came up short in his legal battle. In 2019, a U.S. district judge ruled that this type of ban could only be undone by Congress.
