This call for action arises amid ‍internal disagreements on the legislative ⁢approach for Trump’s first 100 days in office. While Trump advocates for “one big gorgeous bill” to implement his agenda,Senate Majority leader John Thune (R-SD) suggests a two-track strategy, focusing separately⁢ on border and energy issues, and tax reform. Trump and GOP are focused on ‘results,’ not number of reconciliation bills: Markwayne Mullin

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) underscored the need for President-elect Donald Trump and the congressional Republicans to deliver “results” to voters within the next few months, which comes amid disagreement on how to get legislation to Trump’s desk.

Republicans are currently split over how to best execute Trump’s agenda within the president-elect’s first 100 days, with the incoming president having stated he prefers “one big beautiful bill,” while Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) suggested a two-bill approach — one for the border and energy and the other for taxes. In addressing this dilemma facing Republicans, Mullin stated that Trump was “very clear” in a recent meeting with Republican lawmakers that “he wants to see results” but that he would be willing to put aside the idea of one larger bill if two can be achieved.

THUNE WEIGHS TRUMP AGENDA CHALLENGE: GOING BIG WITHOUT OVERPROMISING

“If we can do one big beautiful bill, as he says, then let’s do it,” Mullin explained on Fox News’s Fox & Friends. “If we have to have a contingency plan and drop it down to two, that’s fine — just as long as we deliver for the American people on securing the border, on energy independence, on getting the regulations rolled back, and making sure that we have taxes that are permanent so don’t have a $4 trillion tax increase on the American people right now. So the president was very clear he wants results and he’s willing to work with both chambers on it.”

Mullin also detailed that Trump has plans to issue almost 100 executive orders once he becomes president, but the problem with this is that “it’s not permanent.” As such, Trump called for “reconciliation” to get the legislation needed to enact his agenda to his desk.

Trump claimed after a meeting with Senate Republicans that there is “great unity” within the party and that his vision for the nation would be accomplished “one way or the other” regardless of whether congressional Republicans move forward with one or two bills. Senators, including Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Eric Schmitt (R-MO), have also sought to hype up the party’s unity ahead of Trump’s inauguration.

On Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), whom Trump endorsed prior to a major speaker vote last week, expressed enthusiasm to get to work on Trump’s agenda, including reviving the nation’s economy and possibly eliminating the debt ceiling without increasing spending. Johnson stated that the legislation for Trump’s agenda could make it to his desk by the end of April, or Memorial Day at the very latest.

Trump will return to the White House after his inauguration, which is scheduled for Jan. 20.
