Former New York congressman Anthony Weiner touted his campaign for a New York City Council seat by reporting his most recent fundraising data.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2013 over a sexting scandal with a 15-year-old, which would eventually lead to his conviction, a 21-month prison sentence, and registering as a sex offender. He has been a free man since 2019 and his convict status would not prevent him from any position in government.

“Opened a campaign account 32 days ago. First snapshot : about $1000 a day came in. With matching funds we’re looking at over $150,000,” Weiner wrote on X Sunday. “Dozens of small donations from local residents. Without doing a single event. Without a single fundraising staffer. I’m seeing green lights.”
Since serving his sentence, Weiner joined X in 2022 and started a series of podcasts and radio shows. The two that are still ongoing come out of 77WABC called, The Middle and The Left vs. The Right, where Weiner represents the Left. While on air, Weiner had floated the idea that he would run for New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera’s seat in lower Manhattan. In December, he registered his political committee, Weiner 25, and filed his candidacy.
Weiner’s opponents include Assembly Member Harvey Epstein, Manhattan Community Board Chair Andrea Gordillo, and Community Board Vice Chair and nonprofit group leader Sarah Batchu. All three have raised over $50,000, with Batchu leading the three at over $244,000.
