Incoming first lady Melania Trump revealed that her “first priority” over the next four years will be to “serve the country,” adding that she intends to spend the majority of her time in the White House.

Previous reports claimed that President-elect Donald Trump’s wife would not live in the White House full-time during her husband’s second presidency and instead split her time between New York City and Palm Beach, Florida. However, Melania Trump has said she would be in the White House for most of her husband’s term, going to New York and Palm Beach when situations call for her attendance.

“My first priority is, you know, to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife,” she said in an exclusive interview on Fox News’s Fox & Friends. “And once we are in on Jan. 20, you serve the country.”

Trump also detailed the hiring process she is conducting ahead of the White House move, stressing that she does not want to rush her recruitment or hire too many people so as not to spend “too much taxpayer money.” One goal of her husband’s administration is to cut down on government waste within Washington, specifically with the Department of Government Efficiency.

Beyond her duties in the White House, Trump provided insight into her new Amazon documentary, which will detail her day-to-day life, her responsibilities, and her moving process into the White House. Trump said the idea for the documentary came to her after publishing her memoir, simply titled Melania. She said it was “such a success” that she is proud of and heard how her fans wanted to “hear more from me” after reading the book.

Amazon reportedly paid $40 million for the rights to the documentary, which Trump and Fernando Sulichin are executive directors of. Brett Ratner is directing the film, which is anticipated to be released globally in theaters and streaming in the second half of 2025.

Ahead of the Trump family’s return to the White House next week, Melania Trump’s office announced that Hayley Harrison, a former aide to the first lady, will serve as her chief of staff. Harrison’s role will include overseeing and managing “the East Wing’s team while strategically liaising with other parts of government.”

Donald Trump will return to the White House on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.
