Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna assured that he has “all the confidence in the world” that looters taking advantage of the aftermath of the county’s wildfires will face justice, of which over a dozen have been arrested on robbery charges.

Luna detailed that 39 arrests have been made in the last week, with several arrests being due to people “unfortunately” breaking the county’s curfew. Currently, 14 have been arrested on robbery charges, including nine who have been charged with looting and three who are accused of stealing over $200,000 worth of valuables from a home.

“We’re very thankful to the California Highway Patrol, the National Guard because they’re allowing our deputies to go out and do more what we’re calling looter suppression,” Luna explained on Fox News’s America Reports. “I have all the confidence in the world. I have personally had conversations with not only District Attorney Nathan Hochman but the state attorney general as well and the local U.S. attorney. We’re all on the same page, we’re making sure we’re sending the message, ‘You commit a crime here related to these fires, you are going to be held accountable.’”

The sheriff was asked about the demographics of the arrests, to which he stated none of the people arrested “live in the impacted areas.” When pressed if the looters were possibly illegal immigrants, Luna only responded that he had “no idea” but that this is “not a question that we’re asking.”

As of Monday, a total of 24 people have died in the Los Angeles area following the wildfires, with at least another 16 reported as missing. Eight of these deaths are suspected to have been from the Palisades fire, while 16 have been attributed to the Eaton Fire.

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly planning a visit to California to observe the damage from the wildfires, which have burned down thousands of homes. It comes as the president-elect has repeatedly called for Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) to resign from office in the wake of these wildfires.
