Biden slips one final gaffe into speech to US mayors
President Joe Biden delivered one more classic slip of the tongue during his remarks before the United States Conference of Mayors on Friday.
Biden, to whom the conference gave a Lifetime Public Service award prior to his remarks, opened by mentioning that the Friday speech will be “one of the last events that [he’ll] be doing as president.”
HERE’S WHICH BIDEN EXECUTIVE ORDERS WILL BE THE FIRST TO GO UNDER TRUMP
“The reason I chose to be here is because of the first thing that I did as president was to speak to this conference,” he explained. “Many of you know I started my career as a local councilman. I only ran for the Senate because it’s too damn hard being a local councilman.”
Biden proceeded to make the case for how he had fundamentally transformed the U.S. economy over the past four years, including giving Medicare the power to negotiate down the cost of certain drugs for beneficiaries.
The president pointed to his announcement from earlier on Friday that Ozempic, the popular drug prescribed as both a diabetes medication and weight loss solution, would be included in the next round of Medicare’s drug price negotiations.
But the president mispronounced the name of the drug multiple times.
“Drugs that will treat cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and so much more, including Osempia — excuse me, Ozempiac,” Biden stated before briefly pausing.
“That’s hard to say,” he joked, earning chuckles from the crowd.
“Serving as your president has been the honor of my life,” Biden eventually concluded. “While my term in office is ending, the work continues. Your work continues.”
