CBS News reported on Sunday that people close to Elon Musk, who is the other co-chair, at DOGE have been flouting Ramaswamy’s co-leadership due to frustration that he isn’t keeping up with his share of the work at the organization. There has also been tension between the rank-and-file and Ramaswamy, the outlet said, citing sources familiar with the dynamics of DOGE.

Now, Ramaswamy has been nudged to leave the organization entirely. One person close to Trump told the outlet, “Vivek has worn out his welcome.”

The news that Ramaswamy could be out at DOGE comes just one day before Trump will be inaugurated and when he has pledged a flurry of executive orders and significant changes, with the Department of Government Efficiency being one of those. The goal of the organization is to reduce waste, abolish redundant agencies, and sharpen the efficiency of the federal government as a whole.

Ramaswamy is also expected to enter the Ohio gubernatorial race soon, which is set for 2026.

Just last week, an Ohio operative said about Ramaswamy’s plans, “Vivek’s base plan remains [the] same: to get accomplishments at DOGE and then announce a run for governor shortly.”
