Former Vice President Kamala Harris is heading to Los Angeles to support first responders to the Southern California wildfires, marking her first action following her vice presidency.

Harris’s trip will include a visit to a fire station and passing out food to community members impacted by the fires. The former vice president intended to visit Los Angeles ahead of her departure from Washington.

Harris departed from Washington on Monday afternoon, hours after President Donald Trump’s inauguration, during which Vice President J.D. Vance took her place in the second-most powerful position in the United States.

Following her 2024 defeat to Trump, Harris has reportedly told allies and her friends that she is “staying in the fight” and spent time on a Hawaii vacation in November to contemplate her next steps in the political landscape. One avenue she could take, which her Los Angeles visit could be setting up, is running for California governor in 2026, as Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) cannot seek reelection due to term limits.

Trump ally and Fox News contributor Caitlyn Jenner has hinted at possibly running for governor in 2026, suggesting she would “ destroy” Harris in a race against the former vice president.

Another future Harris could explore is running for president again in 2028, as she stepped in for former President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee once Biden bowed out. However, she would likely face competition for this nomination, as Govs. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI), Wes Moore (D-MD), and Josh Shapiro (D-PA) are all considered viable options for the Democratic Party.

Like Harris, Biden has stated he is “not going anywhere” following his time at the White House, hinting that he still aims to partake in politics going forward.
